We’ve partnered with Polar Rose to help you get a better overview of who’s appearing in your photos on 23. Polar Rose one of the most interesting start-ups in the image search business.

The initial version is is based on their face detection and you adding the correct names to the people showing up in photos. Shortly, we’ll follow up with the next step where Polar Rose will help you batch name the people in your album and give a nice overview over who’s a given album or set of photos.

It’s important to stress that the feature is opt-in and that it’ll only index your public photos. In a nutshell, you’ll need to activate face detection explicitly, and people appearing in private photos will not be detected.

To take the feature for a spin, go to the faces activation form. After you’ve set “Enable face detection on your public photos” to “Yes” Polar Rose will start finding faces, and visitors to your account with also be able to see the detection results.

We’re very excited to try this out, so we’d love to hear your reactions and get any feedback you might come up with. How would you like to see face detection used on 23 in the future? If at all?

Pixelpipe is a service that lets you post your photos, audio and video files to multiple ‘pipes’ or services in one go. For 23 users its particularly interesting because you can add 23 as one of the services you mass distribute your photos to through Pixelpipe.

To start uploading to 23 using Pixelpipe, you simply log in to Pixelpipe, choose 23 as your one of the ‘pipes’ you want to distribute to, click to sign-in to 23 and grant Pixelpipe access to your 23 account, and start uploading your photos to Pixelpipe (and 23).

Pixelpipe uses a really simple web uploader that lets you pick as many files of your hard drive as you like, tag, describe and name them before delivering them to your chosen web services - all at once.
Alternatively, Pixelpipe has developed a number of different apps and plug-ins for Mac, Windows, Linux and Nokia N Series mobiles. As well as supporting basic uploading by email through a unique email address (like we do on 23) making it really easy to upload photos directly from your mobile phone.

And yes, there’s support for iPhone!
