Why we’re slow this (European) morning

It’s certainly nice to be noticed, and we have been with MetaFilter spawning a discussion about 23 a few hours ago.

However, the postive attention comes at a time when we’ve reached the limit of our current server setup, so 23 is not a cosily fast as it could have been. Anyway, we thought a bit of openness and a status report was in order: The new servers have arrived, but we’re still waiting for the hard drives. In short, it’ll be only a few more days before we can guarantee you a perfectly crisp 23 experience again!

Update: The additional servers are coming along fine - but we apologize for the lackluster performance our american and asian users are having during their daytime.

Update: All the hardware for the servers has arrived and been installed. Thomas and Guan will fly down to Amsterdam with them on Sunday, and there will probably be a maintenance period Monday night where the new servers will be added to the 23 cluster.

Update: The new servers are up now and we’re in the process of copying over the hundreds and hundreds of gigabytes of photos that 23 users have uploaded. When that’s almost done, properly Monday afternoon European time, we’ll announce a maintenance period and take the service down for 4 to 5 hours.
