Uploading to 23

While feeding the ego this Sunday morning (a wonderful exercise, though somewhat tiresome if done too often) by surfing Technorati for reference to 23 I learned a few thing. Firstly, Jonathan and Jonas at labkloud9 put us on their Top 5 of Europe 2.0. Although that label seems quite void of actual content, we accept the compliment — and we’d urge anyone to compile a Top 50 list. That could be interesting.

Secondly, it seems that the our multilingual efforts have paid off. For example, I had to do a Google Translate to have my narcissism fully nurtured. Mejor que Flickr es 23 (translated) illustrates that point.

Then, it turns out that 23 is only a “normal” photo sharing site. Though, luckily, “there’s nothing wrong with that”. In fact, we’ve made something of a virtue out of appealing not only to the übergeeks with a digital camera − mostly because we’ve learned that non-geeks have been taking digital photos as well.

This brings us to the final point of the day: Uploading photos to 23 is very easy through the site itself. But we’ve often been asked for an uploader that works from the desktop. We wrote a while back that Mac users are spoiled in that regard with at least two very good tools (PictureSync and FlickrExport which has been updated since our last post). But there are tools for Windows and now Linux as well. The most recent is Pickup Photo Uploader, a Firefox extension which let’s you drag-n-drop some photos and then upload to 23 (and other photo sharing sites). My own test concluded that the tools works perfectly against 23, and, best of all, it ought to be platform independent.

hey, what’s the deal with f-spot. do you know anything more on the subject? as far as i remember you contacted the developers and let them now that 23 is using the same api so the endpoint is just different from flickr’s. i’d love to see f-spot and 23 work together soon :)

About F-Spot: I did contact the developers via their mailing list, and they promised to have a look at it. However, I unsubbed from the mailing list a few weeks back, and to my knowledge the implementation hasn’t been done yet.

Have you tested the Firefox extension — or are you using some odd browser?
