Plans for The February Release
We’re going to try something new for the next set of changes to 23: Listing all the changes we’re planning to make beforehand and see if we manage to complete the list, and if we do so on time.
This is what we’ve got our minds set on:
- Much larger photos on the photo one page. An example of this can already be seen on Guan’s account — but it’ll look slightly different by February.
- Password protected albums. We referenced the top list of requested features in the previous blog post and this is close to the top as well. What would make more sense? Password-protected albums or password-protected collections?
- Twitter and Facebook integration. We’ve just added a status message feature to 23. In the future we’ll be adding a lot of different kinds of messages (i.e. “Has recently uploaded 5 photos from The Red Square, Moscow, Russia.”) but first we’ll be concentrating on distributing those messages. In February, you’ll be posting to Twitter and to Facebook — but 23 should probably also be posting to a kind of hub service, which will distribute messages elsewhere. Which hub service should we choose?
Those are the big ones. We might also be changing the look of the “View as slideshow”-style buttons a bit, and we’ll probably find a few more items to include as well.
[Added]
- Manage the sorting of collections.
- Albums with new photos should be listed first in the overview of album collections.
- The status message should link to the items referenced.
- Don’t show empty albums from /album/list in collection mode.
- Include a link to Just In in the top toolbar.

- Password Protection: I guess Password protecting both will be a good idea. You can have a total collection that you’d prefer to password protect, and you can also have an album in an unprotected collection that you would prefer to have it password protected. Long story short, having password protection on both will give the users higher flexibility
- As a hub service to distribute the message to many places such as twitter, jaiku, facebook etc… I have only used Ping.fm, but I am sure that other users might come with better suggestions as well (not that I have ever had bad experience with them).

Love the bigger photos
As for the pinging: it’d be great if you’d support the Open Microblogging specification, so I could follow people from 23 through sites that support it, such as Identi.ca (which I’m using) and my personal as well in the future.
Now on to reading that previous post

Password-protected albums is my preferred solution. But both kinds of protection would be nice.

I prefer password-protected albums.

@Much larger photos: nice, but I still want the “clean and simple” look with just the picture with a click on the photo, not just over “View photo as” on the right menu
@Password: Password-protected albums AND password-protected collections

I would like to see Password-protected albums AND password-protected collections.
I know there was no question about it… but I like the picture size as it is right now.

bigger pix & password-protected albums.

First of all, happy new year and thanks for announcing new planned features! Regarding password protection I would prefer to be able to protect collections AND albums. However, I could also live with album level protection.
Many thanks, Stefan

@password: albums. If collections are the entire account, rather than a subset, I see no need for a collection password.
@hubservice: can you give some examples?

Is there any chance to add fullscreen option to slideshow for shraing? I think it would be useful.
About password protection: I think option for both - Albums and Collections is good idea.

improve the whole places thing a little bit (places in groups, global places etc.)

Facebook integration is not important for me; I deeply distrust any company that will not remove your account, unless you mention your countries laws relating to storage of personal information!
The large photo view seems great but I would like an option for low bandwidth connections to keep things as they for those of us with slow internet connections.
One of the nicest things about 23 is that photos are generally open to all, or they at least appear that way. Whilst I can see the sense of passwords for some albums, I think its great, for the most part to keep online images non exclusive.

What about maybe some look-a-like theme like on flickr with larger images on the first page of the photostream?
I would really dig this for my nicolasdalby account

How about an option for a look-a-like theme like the one selectable on Flickr with big pictures on the first page of the photostream.
Example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomashawk/

are there any news about the “password protected albums”? Is there any schedule about when and if it will be implemented?
