First release of 2009
We don’t really do software releases in the traditional sense at 23; instead we try to push features out in a more fluid fashion. However, in the last week before Christmas we realised that we had ourselves a decent set of new stuff to compile into a New Year’s Release. (Frankly, it was originally named the Christmas Release but…)
New tabs design
This summer we updated the look and feel of 23 noticably, and actually the design has aged well: We still love it! One sour spot was always the tabs design which felt a bit out of place. This has been solved now, and the result makes for a much, much more coherent header.
Album collections
One of the two or three most requested features on 23 is album collections or shelves. There a multiple threads in the forum about it but we’ve always been a bit ambivalent about offering the feature.
We want to keep 23 clean and simple to use — and we’ve never really been sure we’d be able to offer albums-of-albums without cluttering up the interface. In this release, however, we’re pretty sure we did just that. Go to an album, click New collection, and you’re ready to go.
When you’ve got multiple albums in a collection, we list those other albums for easy navigation. And there’s a quick way to edit or delete collections.
Status messages
From now on, we’ll also be listing your last public actions in the top header. For example, we might list that you’ve recently uploaded 12 photos to a vacation album, or that you’ve used the tag newyears on a few photos. In the very near future, you’ll even be able to have those status messages posted to Twitter or Facebook along with a link back to those photos.
